Aston Township has issued a call for volunteers to staff an exhibition of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial replica in October.

The Wall That Heals, a three-quarter-scale model of the actual memorial in Washington, DC, will be on display at the Aston Community Center for five days in October, part of an ongoing national tour that has visited more than 800 communities since its debut in 1996.

It will be open to the public round the clock from 2 p.m. on Wednesday, October 7, through 2 p.m. on Sunday, October 11.

Volunteers are needed to direct parking, greet visitors and assist them in finding names, help with name rubbings, and staff the Mobile Education Center.

The exhibit honors the more than three million Americans who served in the U.S. Armed Forces in the Vietnam War, and it bears the names of the 58,281 men and women who died in the conflict.

The replica and tour are sponsored by the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund, the nonprofit organization that built the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in 1982.
