Task, the latest crime drama by Mare of Easttown writer Brad Ingelsby, is scheduled to debut on HBO on Sunday, September 7, and campus film buffs are eager to discover whether Neumann will appear in the final cut.
In the new trailer, there's a very, very brief shot at the 1:07 mark that should be familiar to readers of What’s NU?
Scenes with star Mark Ruffalo were filmed in the Mirenda Center and Our Lady of Angels Convent during spring break in March of 2024.
According to reporting by the Delaware County Daily Times, production crews for the series also filmed at Our Lady of Peace School in Ridley Township and in a residential neighborhood in Aston at about the same time. Other reported Delaware County filming locations included Chadds Ford, Marcus Hook, Media, and Upper Chichester.
The studio describes the plot of the seven-episode series succinctly: “In the working-class suburbs of Philadelphia, an FBI agent heads a Task Force to put an end to a string of violent robberies led by an unsuspecting family man.”
Already an accomplished screenwriter, Ingelsby rose to national prominence in 2021 with Mare, a seven-part crime drama that won four Emmy awards. Set in Delaware County with tons of local landmarks and references, the series also shone the spotlight on the quirky Delco accent, even earning a satirical jab on Saturday Night Live.
Ingelsby has local roots. His parents grew up in Springfield and Drexel Hill, and he is a graduate of Archbishop Carroll High School and Villanova University. After moving to Los Angeles to study at the American Film Institute, he returned home and was an adjunct instructor of English at Neumann, among other jobs, until he optioned one of the screenplays that he wrote at AFI.
Ingelsby was the featured guest at the first Neumann Inspires Film Festival in 2023.
