For Melanie Gonzalez, the journey from nursing student to accomplished professional has come full circle. As a proud alumna of Neumann University, Melanie is now dedicating her time to giving back to the place that helped her achieve her dreams. Her volunteerism is not only making a tangible impact but also inspiring current nursing students to navigate their paths with confidence.  

Getting Started with Volunteering 

Melanie has immersed herself in various volunteer opportunities at Neumann University. She attended multiple Knight 2 Knight Networking events, offering guidance and insight to students. Additionally, Melanie contributed to a grant proposal for the Student Nursing Association by sharing her experiences as a former nursing student. Her dedication doesn’t stop there - she has provided nursing students with advice and study guides, helping them navigate the rigorous demands of the program. 

Motivated to Make a Difference

Her commitment to Neumann stems from a deep appreciation for the support she received and foundation she built during her education, and she is passionate about paying it forward to the next generation of nurses.

For Melanie, participating in the Knight 2 Knight Networking events has been especially rewarding. These events allow her to build meaningful connections with students, providing a platform to answer their questions and offer insights into achieving success in the program.

Having the opportunity to speak 1:1 with students and spark a boost in their morale is rewarding for both me and the students. 

Words of Wisdom 

To current students and fellow alumni, Melanie offers this advice: “Stay focused and stay the course. Your dreams will become a reality before you can possibly imagine.” Her words are a testament to the power of perseverance and the value of a strong support system. 

A Message to the Neumann Community 

Melanie’s message to the Neumann community reflects her gratitude and sense of responsibility: “Being able to interact and instill motivation in prospective nursing students has been a humbling experience. Neumann University gave me the foundation and tools to succeed in conquering my dreams. It is now my duty to instill motivation and guidance in our future nurses at Neumann University.” 

Mission Moments Made Possible  

Reflecting on her “mission moments,” Melanie highlights her role as a mentor and preceptor to Neumann nursing students completing rotations at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. She finds immense joy in guiding new nurses, many of whom are fellow Neumann graduates. “There is nothing more rewarding than having the opportunity to plant a seed of inspiration or guidance during their learning process,” she says.
