Students were welcomed back to campus this year with beer.
The drinks were served at an Eagles-Vikings watch party, September 14, in the Sora Luna Lounge located in Flynn Hall.
Students were not able to purchase any beverages unless they had identification proving that they were at least 21 years old and a Neumann student.
The beer service comes from a partnership the university made with Artillery Brewing, a restaurant and brewing company in West Chester, Pennsylvania. They have a liquor license giving them the ability to serve alcohol, with lagers being sold for $5 and hazy IPAs being served for $7 at the game day event.
Despite the Eagles pulling off an exciting win over the Vikings, the event was not as wild and crazy as some Philadelphia sports parties.
It was “welcoming, friendly, and chill,” according to Catherine Fochi, a communication and digital media major, who attended.
Fochi said she only had one drink, adding that "at maximum anyone else who was there had maybe two drinks.”
Those who were unable to attend this event and want a beer should not worry. It won’t be the only Artillery Brewing Sora Luna event.
“The events will be happening on occasion throughout the school year, with the nearest one in the future being homecoming,” said School of Business Dean Eric Wellington. “It’s important for the students to have another fun activity on campus. It’s nice at Sora Luna to just sit by the firepits and relax.”
Wellington says students were mainly behind the idea. Sora Luna has been a student run business since spring of 2022.
“It’s a learning experience on running a business. I’ve already had experience in running one so it’s their job to learn,” said Wellington.
Graduate assistant Ashley Beasley and a staff of student interns report to Wellington and have responsibility for budgets, placing orders, and other business-related tasks.
Beasley views Sora Luna as a great place to bring people together and finds importance in making sure students are having fun and being safe.
It’s been a learning experience for her and the rest of the Sora Luna team.
“There’s some hits and some misses,” she said.
There were 20 people in attendance for the game day event. Those running it expected there to be more, but the beer is here.
